Frequently Asked Questions

What do I need to run QuireScene?

An Apple TV running tvOS 18 or later. No account is required.

Which files can it read?

Comics in CBZ, CBR and ZIP archives, EPUB books, and PDF documents. Books protected by DRM cannot be opened.

How do I get my own books onto the Apple TV?

Open Sources & Transfer. Scan the QR code with your phone, or type the address shown on the TV into a browser on your computer, enter the pairing code, and upload your files. Your phone or computer must be on the same Wi‑Fi network as the Apple TV, and tvOS will ask once for permission to use the local network.

The transfer page will not open on my phone.

Check that both devices are on the same network (guest Wi‑Fi networks often block devices from seeing each other), that QuireScene is open on the Apple TV, and that Local Network access is turned on for QuireScene in the Apple TV’s privacy settings.

Can I read from my NAS or server?

Yes. In Sources & Transfer choose Add Source and connect a Komga server, a WebDAV share (Synology, QNAP, Nextcloud, Alist and others), or any OPDS catalog such as Calibre‑Web or Kavita. Typing on a TV is slow, so the same screen offers a QR code that lets you fill in the address and password from your phone.

Where do the books on the home screen come from?

A new installation includes the Project Gutenberg library, which offers books that are in the public domain in the United States. You can remove it in Sources & Transfer. QuireScene does not sell or host any books.

My transferred books disappeared.

tvOS does not give apps permanent storage, and it may remove an app’s files when the Apple TV runs low on space. Keep the originals on your phone, computer or NAS. For a large collection, connecting a library is more reliable than transferring files.

How do I change the layout or reading direction?

While reading, press the center of the clickpad to open the reading settings. Defaults for new books are in Settings.

Copyright

QuireScene is a reader. Please only read material you have the right to read. To report a problem with a book in the built-in library, contact Project Gutenberg; for anything about the app itself, email us.
